Medical assoc. that directly states bm as a clear liquid/anything about resuming bf POST surgery?

NAK-

DD was given a bottle of glucose water after her surgery with general anesthesia (luckily she refused) and I was later told they do it because they don't consider bm to be a clear liquid. I need medical sources that specifically say bm is a clear liquid and anything that discusses bf post surgery and whether or not baby needs anything first (like glucose water). Thanks!

Other hospital info pages that may help:

(Different hospitals and yet they all say the same thing...)

I don't have access to this article, but it may have something in it (but it is also 1994 so it may be out of date)

Thank you!!! I'm going to print that up tomorrow when I go in for her follow up appointment and have the doctor give it to the anesthesiologist. I don't know if the anesthesiologist said to do the glucose first or not, but this way if she agrees with it then she can make a note of specifically telling them no glucose water. I still have to write up the letter and such that I plan on sending to them but this is really great! The main points are A, bm is a clear liquid and B, it's okay to bf first after surgery. Now I have both covered. orngbiggrin.gif

Plus breastfeeding is SO important post tongue-tie release! Antibacterial - plus it puts pressure on the wound, so it is perfect!

FWIW, my little guy was cleared to breastfeed as soon as he was able after surgery (at 8 weeks old.)

Kuddos to you for taking this as far as you can! You could very well be saving future breastfeeding relationships! thumb.gif (As well as lighting a candle in the darkness of breastfeeding ignorance!)
