Would you use plastic cake tins for baking?

I got several cake tins/muffin forms as a gift from my mother, and since I am trying to use as little plastic as possible I am not tempted to use them. It is food grade plastic for sure, but still - what happens when I heat them up - what do they omit?

Would you use them?

Hm. No. Heck, I've never even heard of such a thing. I'd donate.

The worst way to use plastic is in cooking with heat. I would absolutely not use them.

I'm sure you are talking about silicone, I'm not against them specifically but they don't brown the same way as regular pans.

If they're silicone, yes i would. And i do. Theyre a better choice than teflon, imo. And if you use parchment paper or silpats, they're made of the same material.

I previously said no I wouldn't use plastic, but if it is silicone, then yes I would use them.

Thanks so much for all of your your input! I didn't even know that silicone was used to make stuff for baking. I hadn't even opened the stuff because I was immediately turned off by the idea of heating food in it, but now I opened it and did not find a label saying what it is made of. It is very soft and flexible. Is there a way I can tell whether it is silicone?

It's silicone. I'm sure of it just based on what you describe. I'm doing a head slap that I didn't think of it before, actually - I was just going on the word "plastic" and not questioning it. Have fun using it!

I agree, it's definitely silicone.  Anything plastic can't go in the oven anyway, so it's not plastic.
