1 month old very congested, but only in early am... ideas?

I usually wear DS in a moby sling all day, and he sleeps for hours.  He feeds well (although we were having an overflow issue earlier.)

he spits up a bit, but it's usually after a feeding when I'm changing his diaper and i'm being too rough (lifting his bottom instead of rolling him slightly from side to side.)

My issue is this - he has no signs or symptoms of a cold but in the morning (and in the morning only, between 6-7am) he is so congested that he has a hard time breathing and nursing.  he literally sounds like someone with sleep apnea - with the pauses in breathing.  I've been putting a few drops of salt water in each nostril and then a TINY amount of vicks under his nose.  this seems to help long enough for him to nurse, but he doesn't want to lay flat after that - so i prop him up on my pillow with some improvement or i put him in the moby where the situation completely resolves.

any ideas on the *cause*?  I thought he might be allergic to something in our bed (outgassing from our new mattress, linens, etc) but we've napped in that bed with no problems.

help!

Maybe an air purifier would help.
