Water collected Saturday from the basement of the turbine building of the No. 2 reactor at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant contained radioactivity at 10 million times the concentration normally found in water inside the reactor, the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency said Sunday.
The concentration of radioactive iodine-134 detected in water taken from the basement floor of the turbine building was 2.9 billion becquerels per cubic centimeter, an agency spokesperson said at a Sunday press conference.
Also, radiation of more than 1,000 millisieverts per hour was detected on the surface of the water, the spokesperson said. The agency described this as "quite large"--the annual level permissible for an ordinary person is 1 millisievert.

OCEAN CONTAMINATION SPREADS. Tests of seawater show that radioactive contamination has spread about a mile (1.6 kilometers) farther north of the nuclear site than before. But officials have said no fishing is happening in the area.
so now the radioactive water is flowing into the sea, and we had reports of trace amounts of radioactive rain in multiple states in the US from CA to FL.

Radioactive iodine from Japan's quake-crippled nuclear reactors has wafted its way across the U.S., with traces showing up in Western states including California, Washington and Nevada, as well as in North and South Carolina, Florida, and Massachusetts.
Not trying to alarm people, the report says the amounts are so small there is no risk.
