Silly question about beds as simply a mattress on the floor - Page 2

We have a king size bed on boxsprings which are directly on the floor. It is a little over two feet high. I never bothered to get a bed frame because the ceilings are angled and the bed would be too high. The air here is so dry that I use a cool mist humidifier in the winter (if I don't I wake up dehydrated with headaches and nose bleeds), I've never had a mold or mildew problem. Since dust doesn't really get under the bed, I only move it and vacuum under it every 6 months or so.

I've never had a mildew problem either. I've always loved the easy, simple, bohemian vibe of mattress on the floor. It's great  for co-sleeping, and no temptation to stash stuff under the bed. We are waiting to get a new bed -the lowest box spring I could find plus mattress- because of suffering from back pain due to our crappy mattress and effects of having been pregnant. I could have just gotten a new mattress, but trying them out the box spring combo was just very comfortable, and as I chose the thinnest one it's not very bulky, and there is the option to put legs on it later if we want to... It's never crossed my mind that it was anything but a choice to most people...

We have a very low platform bed (with slats for ventilation) from West Elm. It worked great for cosleeping.
