3 month old spending all day nursing

I'm asking this question for a friend who is about to supplement with formula.

She's stuck at home because her son takes 2 hours to nurse, then sleeps a bit and needs to nurse again an hour later. All this mom is doing is nursing (and it has been like that from the beginning).

She's seen a lactation consultant and had no improvement and has tried Jack Newman's breast compression technique - the babe just lets the mom do all the work!

Ideas anyone?

I think I'd want to more about the situation before giving any ideas. For example, is baby gaining well? Nursing sessions lasting 2 hours would worry me that baby is not transferring milk effectively, and I would want to see a good IBCLC for a complete assessment.

That said, my solution would be to get out of the house with the baby and just nurse when I'm out.

Thanks PatioGardener.

I think babe is loosing weight and Mom just went on doperidone.

I would really encourage her to look into tongue-tie. It impedes milk transfer, so milk supply drops (no demand = no supply) and just increasing milk supply usually doesn't totally fix the situation. Not all LCs can identify all the types of tongue-tie, so seeing someone with experience in the area helps.
