I just wanted to mention your friend who needs one more birth for her cert.- I'm guessing this is a doula cert.- if it is, she would need to be the chief doula to qualify, not the babysitter. ;)

At my first birth, I only wanted essential folks there, just me, DH, the midwife, and 2 midwife assistants.

At the second, I had Dh, midwife and her assistant, midwives granddaughter who was going to be the baby sitter for ds, but wound up being more of an assistant, and 2 hippy friends that showed up the night before who actually wound up being the babysitters for ds, and stayed with him most of the time downstairs, away from me until they brought him up the second after his sister was born.

This time, though, I too have friends that want to come and help, even a friend who want to be my doula for free, and I've never had a doula.. part of me wants to try more people, and part of me is worried... although I would have no qualms sending them ALL out if I needed to.
