K12 Virtual School Gifted program

Has anyone used this system?   Our public school participates in this program.   It allows kids to progress at their own speed.   I would love to hear feedback if anyone has any to offer specifically pertaining to their gifted child using this program.

Thanks!

Could you provide more information about it? Our district does not have any program for gifted kids.

isnt this kind of a homeschooling but through the online schools curriculum.

so essentially the online school with 'offices' in your city provides the curriculum and you meet with the teacher either once a month or once a week to show your work.

i know of one mama here who had her kids in this kind of a virtual school (dont think it was gifted though) but i dont see her anymore.

however if you posted in teh homeschool board maybe someone could be using this.

i know in California at the virtual school one can skip grades. So i am not exactly sure what this program does.

dd's teacher tells us gifted GATE class is not that much different than regular class. while a regular class begins with the first lesson, GATE skips the first detailed review part, but touches on it. it is just more accelerated where we are. so a regular class may do 120 lessons, a GATE class goes upto 160 lessons.

We're contemplating using this system this year since my son will be able to start at his right place and progress at his own rate. I have my concerns, not with the k12, but more with providing a conducive home environment so that he can concentrate at home due to the others.

I do think it would be nice to start. In the schooling at home forum on this website, other mothers have talked in detail about it. Check out those links. Many do say that with a busy household it's harder due to the busy-ness of the curriculum. So, I think that has to be a factor it in. To counter that I'm trying to get us in a routine as my kids take a little time to adjust.

I really do like it though as he'll be able to go ahead without boundaries as he is ready and able...or as slow on other subjects as he needs. He's not all balanced so the subjects will be indivdually assessed and started where ever he needs to be.

BTW I purchased the math curriculum just to have and see hands on how it is before we take such a leap. The school system where we're moving provides everything but I bought this myself to test it.

Im not familiar with k12.  I did glance at it and the program didnt look like something that DS would like.

I know there is a k12 chat on the homeschooling area
