Thoughts on Ibuprofen

Anyone have any thoughts on taking ibuprofen (to reduce bleeding during AF) while TTC?  I'm SO not into western medicine, but if the benefits REALLY outweigh the risks, I'll consider it (I am on metformin for PCOS...).  That said, I know that western MDs tell ladies with really heavy AF to take motrin during AF to reduce bleeding (e.g. from fibroids).

So... get on your soap boxes, ladies - why should/shouldn't I take motrin during AF to reduce bleeding while TTC?

Ibuprofen has been known to cause implantation problems and if you are activly trying to get pregnant right now I wouldn't even THINK about it.  My doctor had me on Naproxen for cramps before we  started TTC DD#2 and once he found out we were trying he took me off of it and told me to stick to tylenol.  I would look for other things to help with your heavy bleeding if you're worried about that...but when you bleed during AF it is getting rid of the old lining and then your body prepars a new lining during the next couple of weeks to get ready for implantation again.  So, you really do want as much of the old lining out of you a possible before the next blood starts building up.  G/L and I hope that what i've said answered the question you asked.

I have also heard that ibuprofen is a bad idea when ttc. For implantation. And because I know you can't take it in the third trimester, due to it causing heart problems in babies, I stay away from it. I see you are doing acupuncture. Is that helping? I found it to be so beneficial - not for heavy bleeding, but for cramping and clotty AF. Now I have no cramping at all, and the flow is better(though a bit light, but that's another story!). I hope you find something to help you.

So you shouldn't take ibuprofin while TTC the entire time? I knew you weren't really supposed to take it but I sort of decided it was good enough not to take it after ovulation...I guess I'll stop. Makes me sad though, I get such headaches sometimes and tylenol doesn't do anything for me.

Well, I guess it will be tylenol for me too.  I had no idea ibuprofen did a number on implantation.  I don't really like Naproxen.

Thanks for the replies!  I really just want to take it on CD 2 - some cycles, day 2 is just soooo heavy... :/

Gumblossom - Acupuncture is amazing!  I have PCOS, and didn't really cycle on my own, and, when we decided to TTC, I KNEW there had to be a way to get my cycle back without all those artificial hormones.  My husband has had success for his reflux and migraines too.  :)

Hmm, I took Ibuprofen for headache last Friday because the headache was too much.  I thought Ibuprofen was the only pain reliever we can take while nursing...

Wow, I've never heard of this!  I take Ibuprofen when I have really awful cramps, or occasionally with a really bad headache.  Guess I will stick to Tylenol from now on.  :(

No, Tylenol is safe while breastfeeding also.  Ibuprofen (Advil) can *not* be taken during pregnancy - only Tylenol (Acetominophin) sp??.  Aspirin and Naproxen (Alieve) cannot be taken while pregnant OR nursing.

I think 2 pills per cycle wont do any bad if pain is very bad,,,,the stress you get because of the pain isn't doing anything good either. Try some tea, like rapsberry leafs which benefits females for ages (http://www.kwintessential.co.uk/articles/article/China/Chinese-Herbs-to-Stop-Menstruation/1858),,,

Tylenol doesnt do anything to me  so I know how some of you feel. Still while pregnant I will stay away from Ibuprofen as well as all other meds because doesn't want increase any risk of unhealthy baby...
