I feel like this is CIO, but also need a sleep solution...

So I have been struggling to get my 16 month LO to sleep, after bath and LO nurses I put LO in crib and LO immediately starts screaming and asks to be picked up, I pick LO up and sit in rocking chair with LO but LO wants to squirmy around so we go back to crib. ANyway I could go into more detail but do you feel that it is CIO to let LO fuss while in crib when I am right there with LO? I rub LO's back hum, and other comforts. My shoulders and back are becoming insanely sore, and pregancy and repeatedly picking up LO over and over again at the end of the day isn't going to work, I want to support LO as much as possible but I also believe in protecting  my own health. Any thoughts.... I am right htere with LO just not conforming to LO's every request, LO screams if I don't hand LO scissors LO sees and wants, ya know? that's not CIO.

No, I don't consider that CIO.  You are acknowleding LO's needs and comforting LO.  I did the same thing around that age - lots of butt patting and humming.  Eventually he learned to just lay down and go to sleep - most of the time anyway.  I think what you are doing is still "parenting" your baby to sleep, not abandoning LO to CIO.

I don't think this is CIO. My son is 17 mo and we spend some time snuggling and nursing before bed. The whole routine can take an hour. I get so exhausted- I am almost to the point of trying exactly what you are doing. Do you feel like the routine is starting to work?

I don't consider this CIO, like PPs. My son is a great sleeper and easy to go down. But there are nights when he babbles forever. Sometimes he'll be in there babbling for 20-40 minutes. As long as it's a happy babble, I let him stay. I don't consider that CIO either. He is finding his own solution. When it becomes a cry for something more, he's at the point (18mos) where I can ask him. Actually, he tells me... I walk in and he's thrown his toy out of the crib and wants it back, most often. Or he just needs to be held for a moment. We snuggle, we look around the room, whatever, we take those few minutes. And back in bed.

As long as he's not alone in there sad, needing something, CIO... which doesn't sound like that's what you're doing. You're doing everything you can.

I will say that I give my LO a few minutes to figure out what his issue is - granted, he's a Great sleeper. But if he really needs something, he lets me know, and I respond. That's the difference.

This is not CIO. I happily rocked my son to sleep for every nap and bedtime and would still do it if he let me. But at around the same age, he simply refused to let me rock him anymore. I was at a loss for what to do but ended up putting him in his crib and let him watch his aquarium

(lights and music box) until he fell asleep. He definitely protested some and we did some butt patting too, but he calmed down very quickly and now he goes to sleep very happily by himself. I was not comfortable with the transition either but I followed his lead and now bedtime is easy breezy.

Thanks for your thoughts I am still struggling at what to do, like others have said would be okay with rocking him in the rocking chair after he nurses for a while, perhaps even until he was very very snoozy but he just won't have that now, he wants to squirm aorund but screams as soon as I set him in his crib, and can scream for 30 minutes (I am in his room the entire time) pating his back, speaking softly to him, I hope that he can just figure out that he needs to lay down (sometimes he will play for a long time in his crib and I"m fine with that, but recently we've been having these problems), I just struggle to hear him wail like that, but I don't know what to do..... I always end up picking him up and standing while I rock him at times.
