something healty for person on liquid diet?

I have a family member with lichen planus, a very painful mouth condition that has made eating nearly impossible, so he has been using Ensure. WHile it IS calories and thus will ward off starvation, I worry because it is really so unhealthy (it's basically sugar water with a low-quality vitamin pill added, and some isolated soy and milk protein, and artificial colors and flavors...)

Any advice for homemade, whole food liquid nutrition supplements? Something that would be bland and easy to get down.

I had thought coconut oil would be an awesome source of healthful calories, but sadly, it irritated his mouth further.

Thanks for your help!

home made chicken stock? Its hard to anticipate what will go down easy and what will be irritating, but maybe some kinds of soup thats pureed in a blender, with extra stock added if it needs to be more liquidy.

Here's a recipe for a wonderful immune boosting soup that you could blend, or simply strain before serving.

Thanks for the ideas! Good homemade bone broth is a good place to start very healthy and immune-boosting. But I'm also looking for ways to get in a lot of protein and calories.

Also, due to the severe, stinging pain in his mouth, garlic, ginger, onions, and just about any spice are out; also no yogurt, tomatoes - nothing tangy. And then sometimes random things that you wouldn't think would be a problem, will cause pain and stinging. It's tough!

I do appreciate the responses, please keep ideas coming!

Also, this extended family member does not live with or near me. So unfortunately I can't make food for him. AND he and his caretakers are of the generation that takes doctor's words as gospel, so dissuading them from the doctor-recommended Ensure and other processed, packaged foods and getting them to switch to (or at least add in!) really healthy, homemade foods is not going to be easy. Any suggestions for that would help! They will be moving a bit nearer me soon, so I could drop off stuff from time to time.

Once when I was trying to gain weight I would add avacodo to my smoothies. It tasted pretty good.
