Sorry if this doll has been discussed on here before. I haven't been on in a while and needed to come somewhere where I would get supporting opinions. A friend, or former schoolmate posted this link on fb: http://thebreastmilkbaby.com/ and prompted for thoughts.
I commented along the lines that I think it's great. That nursing is a wonderful way to connect with your child and provide nourishment and that I feel more toys should model this type of nurture - but, just my opinion. Now, where I grew up would not be a lactivism or breastfeeding friendly place, but comments from mothers of other fellow schoolmates included key words like disgusting, pedophile - just really derogatory stuff.
I feel that if y ou are going to use this as a teaching tool in your home, chances are you are also teaching your child the things they need to know to respect and protect their body. I feel our society has such a morphed body image and their reaction to this is exemplary of that.
Second - I wish I would have known about this while i was preggers with ds2. I don't know that i would have purchased it, but what a great concept for prepping other children. Made me think of some things i wish i would have done for dd1 when we were waiting for her brother.
Anyway - I want to respond again so bad. I really feel that this is a chance to plant the seed for a future mother. She is far away from the direct influence of this community so if she listens to even a little bit of a different viewpoint it would be worth it. However, I hate arguing, especially with these types of people. Would you respond? I wouldn't want it to be inflammatory in any way. Just, positive, consice 'opinion' as I had commented originally.
I am going to chat with my mom. She's been somewhat opinionated about our choices and might help me get some of the steam out. However, she has made comments as of recent that make me think I have brainwashed her now. :-D
Thanks mommas!
