Booster Seats in UK

Thread Starter

I'm trying to figure out what to do about a booster seat for my 9yo when we visit the UK.

The law says he needs to be in a booster, because he is shorter than 135cm, and younger than 12yo.

The booster seats I'm finding to buy are rated as up to 36kg, but he is heavier. (Even the Graco, which we have in Canada and is rated here to 100lb, is only rated to 36kg according to the web stores I'm shopping at).

What do I do?

Buy one in Canada and bring it with you. I don't think it's a problem to use your own seats if you're just visiting. They can't really expect everyone who ever visits a foreign country to buy THEIR seats. As long as you're following their law, I don't think it's a problem. I know that I visit Canada a lot and I own a seat not made in Canada and I don't have a Canadian one and switch it at the border.

I don't think you will find a booster rated above 36kg, since car seats hear are sold by group and the groups seem to be defined by weight. http://www.childcarseats.org.uk/types/index.htm

I have no idea why the seats are based on weight and the law by height, or what parents of children over 36 kg are supposed to do.

I think bringing a seat with you is probably your best bet.
