Somebody Tell Me More About MACA

So, my acupuncturist/herbalist recommended maca to me last year. My DS is a very light sleeper and nurses frequently during the night, and my acupuncturist recommended maca for its benefits to regulating sleep and thus hormones. Anyways, I've seen it mentioned a few times, but I'm wondering why others are taking it. Is it the hormone regulation that has others using it?

I've ordered Maca (haven't received it yet), but yes the reason I ordered is for hormone regulation. I have PCOS and an imbalance in my Luteinizing Hormone:Follicle Stimulating Hormone levels. I'm hoping Maca can help :).

I didn't see anything about Maca aiding sleep in the research that I did. If that's the case then yay, another bonus! I read it's also good for energy levels and sex drive.

I am currently taking maca for endocrine function. It does regulate hormones, has a positive effect on the thyroid and adrenals. It's not a hormone itself, it just regulates imbalances in hormone function. One thing to remember is that is it very weak if taken raw. Indiginous people never use maca raw. It should be in gelatinized form. Slow, sun dried varieties are best. thumb.gif
