We're looking for inexpensive bulk foods: mostly canned fish, dried fruits, nuts, seeds and sprouting seeds.

is there anyplace in canada with free shipping and good prices?

ps, organic is optional but okay if the price is right. there is a very expensive organic coop nearby that doesnt work because we cant afford it.

These guys have great fish.  I don't know if you will find the price to be right, as it is more than your average grocery store brand, but is very very good and sustainably harvested.

Where in Canada are you located?

so i think we're good for now. we had the chance to talk with a lady who is really big on food storage and she gave us some good tips.

We've managed to hook up with our religious org to order some things in bulk (tahini, for example) from the guy in town who supplies the health food stores and organic sections at the grocery stores. It was an amazingly good deal - 4kg of tahini for $36. Anyway, piggy-backing on someone else's larger order might be an option.

Hello:

I would be interested in hearing more about what these ideas are the lady provided to you.  I am currently prepping for my family and have been searching where I can buy in bulk in Canada and have been somewhat unsuccessful.  It seems Canada (at least Ontario) doesn't have many options for buying in bulk from a northern community.  Your sharing of information would be in complete confidence and very much appreciated.  Thank you.

this is in Atlantic Canada, but they have free shipping for orders over 300$. Their stuff isn't cheap, but I find it's roughly the same or slightly better than the PC Organics line. http://www.speervilleflourmill.ca/

Also, you could just go to the Bulk Barn. They will let you buy massive quantities of any of their stuff (ie:75lb cases of baking soda, etc). They don't do fish, and I've never seen sprouting seeds, but I bet one of their suppliers carries them.

A good place for nuts and dried fruit is http://www.ranchovignola.com/

They do wholesale orders in the fall and their stuff is very good quality.

I learned from this topic, I gathered all the suggestions too. It is really hard to budget for food. I badly need to look for cheaper foods to sustain my family needs. It seems a maudlin idea, but it is true that we waste enough food annually to feed the hungry. Some estimates peg waste at 50 percent of production, meaning half of all generated foodstuffs are going in the trash.
