recurring sinus infections from allergies

so for three years in a row about this time of year my husband starts getting allergies from juniper pollen, he starts coughing and sneezing, and it seems like just a common allergy except in a while it turns into a horrible sinus infection... he cant sleep, wonders around the house, sneezes and coughs and noone ends up sleeping.

he swallows all kinds of pills by handful and nothing seems to bring anything more than a short relief. he has tried acupuncture and chiropractor and they help but only for a little bit. i really dont know how to help him.

My husband has allergies and asthma and has found amazing relief with a salt pipe. It really works. It works best when used daily for 15mins or more.. I definately recommend trying that if you are looking for alternative remedies. It has really made a huge different for my hubby.

When his nasal allergies are bothing him, he will do a saline rinse with a homemade solution. The recipe I use for it is: Add 1TBS of baking soda to 3TBS of canning salt (must not be regular salt as iodine can be irritating to an already sensitive/itchy nose) and mix together, store in air tight container. When you are ready to make the rinse, add 1 TBS(or 1tsp if its too salty for you) of this mixture to1 cup previously boiled, now room temp water. Mix well and put in suringe.

He stand/leans over the bathroom sink (or does in the shower) and gently squirts it into his nose like you would apply the solution from a netty pot. He does not do this on a daily basis, only if he is sneezing lots. Its messy and apparently feels really strange but it really helps if the sneezing just won't stop.

He also boosts his immune system by taking B12 and B6 vitamin complex with some OJ or fresh fruit for vit C in the morn.

Hope your hubby finds some relief and you guys can all get some sleep :)

thanks for your reply!!! he has actually done sth similar, but i dont know if it had iodine or not. we have one of those little pots to rinse nose. i will tell him about no iodine though. he does take a multi vitamin and some other stuff, and drinks oj too.

i think he is just very bad at sticking to things that are not 'pleasant', he will rinse his nose a few  times and then forget it for a while. i will try to remind him to do it consistently
