I Am Taking a Poll!!

Are any of you a mother, to an asthmatic child, who did natural childbirth, breast fed, no vax, no antibiotics or western medicine?  The reason I'm asking is because my 7 year old was just diagnosed with asthma which breaks my heart and I am beating myself up and driving myself crazy.  I try to live as naturally as possible but I did have a c-section and I did vaccinate and have opted for antibiotics 4x which I consider pretty good for today's standards,  and I can't help but wonder did these things cause asthma or is it just genetic? Thanks for your participation and helping dig a little deeper into understanding this condition.  The only info I can find online are theory after theory and I just want to here from some real moms with asthmatic children.  Also are there any alternative asthma therapies that have truly helped your child?  Thanks

There's no need to beat yourself up. Plenty of mums do all the above but their kids are not asthmatic.

My extended family has a few asthmatic cases, esp one of my cousin's family, and there is a genetic component to it. Asthma is also linked to dustmite allergy, so that's something worth noting. One of my nephew used to be hospitalised almost every two months, but he has largely outgrown it by seven. His mother puts an air filter in his room.Another cousin, much older, also had asthma and eczema throughout his childhood but has largely outgrown both by the time he was around 20.

DS2 is allergic to dustmite and while his main sympton is eczema, we have been cautioned that he might develop asthma (look up "the allergy march"). This is something I am very wary of, so we are tackling the dust quite religiously so as to prevent further sensitisation, while hoping that he will outgrow it with time. Another close friend of mine with three asthmatic children (she herself has chronic asthma) has found that the great outdoors is the best preventive measure and help to cut down on the number of attacks. I have found the same for my little one whenever he gets a little stuffy in the morning. But make sure your child has no pollen allergy.

We follow TCM's guidelines for our eczema-asthmatic prone children and limit cold drinks and excessive fruits, we also avoid food colorings, as both advised by paediatricians, and also due to feedback from other allergy-prone members of the extended family. I must say that talking to other family members that I only see at annual gatherings have thrown up a lot of useful information regarding an inherited condition. Maybe you can try the same; you never know what will turn up!
