SallyNichole, why does he check you then if he thinks it means nothing? Such a weird contrary message to me. I really hope your baby decides to come ASAP and you get to meet her. How lucky you have genetics on your side :)
I agree with ilovebeingamomma-
Im of the opinion that what the cervix is doing definitely means something. :) Yes, a woman can go from completely closed and long to full blown labor in a day.. but that isnt exactly how it often happens. Usually you will get funnelling, a softening, the cervix will move midline or anterior and then back to midline.. it will start to dilate.. I like how midwives will often tell you these individual things because I believe in the power of positive suggestion and so, when you know your body is doing something it is comforting.. and it isnt a lie because most women are having these things happen. If all you know is that your cervix is closed and long or thick then you only know a part of the story. Plus "thick" is such a subjective term.
I hadnt been able to reach my cervix until a little over a week ago, short fingers and posterior.. but the best way Ive always found is to sit on the toilet or the side of the tub with one leg up with the foot on the sitting surface. I can also get it often with one leg up on the side of the tub when taking a shower.
Mine is about 50% effaced and 1-2 centimeters, depending on how much I want to stretch it.. It's pretty midline right now, sometimes even a little anterior.
