Awesome news for our family!!

So, this isn't exactly single parent related but it hugely affects my single-momma life. We are a founding family for the new charter school that's being started in our area!!

The school is based on the same philosophy as our old charter school that closed 2 yrs ago that we have desperately missed (Constructivist, Democratic, Non-Violent Communication) and it's a homeschool hybrid (half in class, half off-campus). A bunch of our old school community will be part of this new one plus a bunch of people from our newer homeschool community. My kids will have 2 full days of class & half a day of electives each week and we'll still be able to do our already scheduled activities on the other days.

This is so, so huge for me, since the loss of our school community was almost worse than losing my marriage (especially since they happened so close together) and there are nearly no other school choices that work for us. It is such a relief; August can't arrive soon enough

That sounds great.  I didn't realize there were schools like that.  I had wanted to homeschool my son, but figured I would have to give that up with getting divorced.  Do you have any idea where I would check to find out if there are schools like this near me?

So far as I know, this is the first of it's kind, at least around here where charter schools are becoming very common, but I do know there are homeschool co-ops around that have a similar concept, offering classes on campus as well as supporting off-campus work. I'd just start researching homeschooling in general in your area and search for co-ops and charter schools as well. A lot of this sort of stuff is discovered by word of mouth so sometimes you have to dig into the local HS community to get answers.
