Eye drops

At the hospital the give the baby eye drops. Does anyone do that at an UC?

Those are for women with clamidia or ghonorreah (spelling?)

If you don't have those, then you don't need any eye drops/ointment. It's better not to use them unless you have those.

I guess I am just so used to the hospital procedure that I assume I should do the same thing as far as that goes.

Even if you DO have stds, the studies show the drops are ineffective.  Most of them show no difference between babies with chlamydial conjunctivitis that receive the drops vs those who don't.  There are also studies that suggest the baby is exposed to it after birth, not from the birth canal.

Ok, so I read a few posts and articles that said the eye drops are not neccesary and I understand that but for some reason I keep thinking about it! (me over thinking again) I do not have any std's but i think the thing is I have had it done at the hospital with my other babies that I think I should just do the same thing with this one as far as the procedures after birth. Am I weird or what? Ha ha!

It's hard to change our childbirth rituals!  It doesn't make you weird :)  It can be hard to imagine giving birth at home without any of that stuff, until you actually do it.

Yes! This is a whole new experience for me and I am so excited about it.

We didn't do eye drops either. My oldest didn't look too happy with all that gook in his eyes and my youngest sure looked happy without it!
