Oregon/Washington Midwives??

Hi, I am trying to figure out what it is we want to do. This is my 5th pregnancy and I just had a baby 7 months ago. I have never had any problem delivering vaginally so am not concerned about it. My husband and I are looking for a more hands off approach and basically just somebody to be available as a support person with experience in attending births incase we have questions or need help. We are living on a very limited income with a soon to be family of 7 and every midwife I have contacted costs about $3,000 cash and with $12/hr that is not possible. We barely make it as it is. I do not want to go to the hospital unless I absolutely have to. I have not had much luck and am getting tired of emailing a million midwives. I know it is going to be hard to find somebody that I trust that we can afford but figured I would try here. If you know anybody in Washington/Oregon please let me know. We are an hr from Olympa, Wa and an hr about from Portland, Oregon. I have contacted pretty much everyone I can find in searches online so probably gonna only have luck through somebody somebody else knows not a big practice. I dont know if we are suppose to post our email or not? My email is mstori880 @gmail.com <-- please put together. I really think any help you can give. Oh and I'm 16 wks expecting Sept 2011. Thanks!!

You'll get more responses on the local tribe for WA/OR, check that out. There are even some old threads you could search to give you come options while you wait for responses. I hope you're able to find the right match!!

I loved my midwife (based in N Portland) and she accepted our insurance. So even though her fee was near $4000, we only paid $400 out of pocket. Are you insured?

Thank you so much! I think I found somebody. We will be meeting with them soon and are very excited.

I have become so frustrated with trying to find a midwife in our local area that I have started a long process to becoming a Midwife :) It is the self-study route but I have always studied this type of stuff any ways. I hope to finish my studies within a reasonable time frame, find a midwife willing to help me out as a preceptor so that I can fill all the requirements to go the PEP route through NARM and then pass the NARM exam to become certified. It's a harder way but I'm up for the challenge :)

Thanks again!!

Who was your midwife? I'm looking for one, not now, but once we get pregnant. I love my midwife in Santa Cruz, but since we're moving to Portland she will no longer be an option. greensad.gif When I can, I prefer taking recommendations as opposed to picking from a list.
