April running is not just for Fools! - The April Dingo Thread - Page 14

Just popping in quickly to wish everyone a wonderful day.

I just did the SmartCoach at RW and it thinks I can run the BB at an 8:20 pace. huh.gif I don't know what to think. That seems crazy fast, but in the last two races I ran faster than the pace it suggested. So? Guess we'll find out all too soon. shrug.gif

I love the idea of the Haggada.  I would like the kids (and myself) to learn more about our heritage, and more about Jewish holidays other than Hannukah (which is pretty minor in the grand scheme of things).  And true to my upbringing, I am having my parents and brother over on Sunday for ham.  We are all about the religious eating in my family!

So, on this dreary, dreary day, I managed to somehow pull out a trip to the gym for some strength training, rushed home and ran 2 miles on the treadmill at 10:54 pace.  It all seemed like not a lot, but I guess it added up to over an hour of exercise, so I'll just have to be happy with that!

Oh, and Real - sometimes I think that Smart Coach is psychotic and on drugs.  But, that may be just me! lol.gif

Good afternoon!

Nic--Good for you, getting everything pulled together for Passover.  After all of that cooking and cleaning, I hope that you are able to have a very restful and relaxing holiday.  I'm jealous of religions with so much tradition involved.  I would've made a good Jew or a good Catholic.  Two of my close mom friends are Jewish, and one is incredibly patient with me when I ask her to explain the details of her traditions.  My other Jewish mom-friend was here today with her daughter, passing around Matzo crackers.  My kids thought they were the greatest thing they'd ever eaten.

ND--Sounds like you had a great birthday meal!  Several courses with wine?  Eek, I would've been giggly, too, and then soon after I would've been flat on the floor.

Dianna--I'm sorry about your pelvic floor issues.  I wish I could help out, but I don't have any information.  My childbirth experience was pretty awful and required lots of stitches, but thank goodness left me with no permanent problems.

It's day 2 of school vacation week here.  I met my close group of mom-friends at a breastfeeding support group when all of us had newborns.  Our pack of kids is now six years old.  The group met on Tuesdays so when all of our kids outgrew the group, we broke off and continued to meet on Tuesdays, when possible.  I offered to host whomever wanted to come today, then agonized over cleaning and food and other nonsense.  Most of our friends bailed on us, but we had one friend who arrived at 10 and stayed until 2, another show up for a couple of hours during that time, and a third friend who arrived at 3 and stayed until 5.  I feel as though I've had to be on all day, even though it was just playdates with three friends.  More people would have been easier, actually.  Then I would have had time to sit out on the conversation and regroup a bit.  I have a headache and feel crummy, which reinforces to me that I'm not the sort of person who feels energized by socialization.  I still have a church discussion group to get through tonight, too, which will be tough.

I ditched running today when I woke up to my alarm at 6:50 and heard rain on the roof.  I'm just not that dedicated.

Hi Dingos,

It sounds like a bunch of us got some questionable "Spring" weather today, hail, sleet, thundersnow..... Hello spring!

Jo, that is very cool that you have a contact person already over there.  I hope she turns out to be cool, and a good person to hang out with. I think Scrabble is a great idea.  And lots of art supplies.

LaLa, I hope you made it through your group tonight OK. So do you have a lot in common with your group of friends from babyhood? I had a group that I was really tight with for a year or two, but now we really wouldn't have much to talk about. It's so wierd how shared experiences can be so context based.....

Bec, good for you to get in an hour. I think that's awesome, especially with having to travel in the middle!

Rellim, what's the BB? Bay to the Breakers? How long is the BB? If it's not that long you should go for it! Of course, being a mother, what we can or can't accomplish totally depends on the week, doesn't it? LOL

Plady, I didn't realize you have been hurting.  I hope you get it all fixed and running is comfortable soon for you!  You know about the lice, My girls had lice last fall, and I am still having dreams that I am finding them in MY hair.  Ugh such a mess.... I feel for you.

RM tell uw about your workout center.  What will you have in it, and what are you doing to maximize its awesomeness?  I am always looking for ideas....

Sorry cant write much more, one of my cats ripped off 6 freakin' keys off the keyboard this morning.  So evil.  My friend on FB posted that he has cat recipes.  Scary but tempting LOL

My birthday cake was truly delicious.  My daughter worked two whole days making it and was so proud of herself.  I was proud too, to see how confident she has become. Mr. D got me a heart rate monitor and some of those compression socks so I will be prancing around in style.

OK gotta go get seconds of some cake!

Love, ND

BB - Just guessing, but Boulder boulder?

So, I'm planning my summer vacation (insisting on a real camping vacation this year.  I'm thinking it is going to be bringing me through Denver and Colorado Springs.  Real, Gaye?  Meetup?orngbiggrin.gif  I have no dates as of yet, but thinking sometime in July.

Thanks; the group was good.  There are nine of us, so there is time for me to sit back and absorb the conversation.  Tonight's topic was fear, which led to some interesting discussions about different fears in different age groups, how to move through fear, and which fears are reasonable and which aren't.

My mom-friends are an interesting group.  There are nine of us who are still in touch.  We all live in different towns, follow different religions, and have different ways of interacting with our kids.  Somehow, though, it doesn't matter.  I find something to talk about with each of them individually, and each one feed a different part of my personality.  With one mom I can talk literature, with another I discuss movies and religion, and with a third I talk about environmental and health issues.  The best part is that, with the sometimes exception of one little girl who is manipulative and throws off the group dynamic, our kids get along really well together.  It's not unusual for all of our kids (15 of them, now!) to be able to play together for hours without problems while the moms talk.  You'd think that by the time kids reach six years old, they would no longer have much in common with the friends their moms chose when they were infants.  We're very lucky that things worked out this way.  It is still exhausting to host a playdate, though.

Tomorrow, will I run?  Hmmm.  I'd have to wake up early, which didn't work out this morning.  As a result, I had a day of low energy and eating crap food.  Ugh.

YES! joy.gif I'll be in clinical, so I'll definitely be around! orngbiggrin.gif

BB= Bolder Boulder 10k. Second largest 10k in the US after the Peachtree, I believe. It's a freaking awesome race, and I stillheart.gif it.

Speaking of which...drjen? Can you also put me down for the BB (where I will not run anywhere close to 8:20 pace, but will hopefully have breakfast with real after she smokes it!). And also the Loveland Lake to Lake Tri on June 25 and Venus de Miles (67 mile bike ride) on August 28? And take the Colfax marathon off? Thanks! blowkiss.gif

Today was Easter Tuesday in our house, since DS is heading to Ohio with XH tomorrow for the weekend. So, the Easter bunny paid a little visit last night, and OMG...DS's delighted squeals when he discovered his Easter basket and all the eggs that the sneaky bunny hid were fabulous. love.gif After a nice quick run, we colored our eggs, and then it was off to work for the afternoon. Not a bad day, all in all!

Gaye ~ Sounds like a great Easter Tuesday for you and T! :)

Bec ~ I want to go with you on your trip.  LOL!  Is there a Dingo campout this summer?

ND ~ Glad you had a good birthday!  I must try an alcoholic kombucha in late October. :)

Jo ~ I hear you are snowed in.  That's bullhucky, I say!  How's your back?

NRR: We put an offer in on the house yesterday - finally!  We found a mortgage that we can roll in some things that need to be fixed before we move in, so that made the offer easier.  I don't know what to expect at this point.  I keep saying to myself that the realtor will call with - "He has accepted your offer."  He has until tomorrow to respond, which it may take that long.  The bank and his ex-wife have to approve it as well I do believe.

FM: I have still been doing Yoga Booty Ballet.  The last video I did was the light and easy one because the time before I couldn't breathe - this cold was all in my head and face.  I sweat a lot, drank a lot of water, and rested during it too.  I am looking forward to trying a new DVD today and hoping I have more stamina.

JenLove, the market is in your favor. Hoping for what's good, right and best!

I've called the shippers to reschedule to next week. There's a foot of snow in the driveway, no snowblowers in the garage, and the snow is too wet and heavy for a snowblower anyway, so all I can do is wait it out. Couldn't plow it without further tearing up the yard.

Back is OK. I am luxuriating in my laziness right now--bed, TV, laptop and a cat. A nice, relaxing break before I jump back into housework and maybe, if some snow melts, try venturing out with the car.

excellent.

geofizz is on her way here and will presumeably be here in a few hours. It looks like she might avoid snow ....

Have fun with Geo, Kerc!!!  I'm totally jealous.

Jennie - Congratulations!!!  It's a good time to buy.  Anytime you are down near Chicago area, let me know!

Jo - I was wondering how you were doing, snow wise.  Ugh!  Come on, spring!  Maybe this is God's way of telling you to do exactly what you are doing!  Relax your back in bed!  Has your DH arrived safely?

FM: Swim at tri class tonight.  The warm up was 8x25, with each 25 increasing in intensity.  It was a tough warmup.  We then had a 15 minute snake swim.  I was able to go at a steady, hard pace, and it felt good.  1400 yards in a little over half an hour including the cooldown (which was the warmup reversed so decreasing in intensity).

Oh, and I tried on some pants that had been really too tight before and they are feeling much looser now!  I'm going to try to not weigh myself and just concentrate on eating sensibly (with a South Beach style, if not strictly SB).

That sounds good. My in-laws might be out sometime that month, but I have no idea when.

I totally want to have breakfast with you afterward. I was thinking about that last week when I registered. joy.gif

Don't know if I mentioned that J caught a stomach bug on Monday (stupid children's museum) but anyhow, she managed to pass it on to DH and me last night. We literally got sick within minutes of each other. Today the stomach stuff had settled but we both had fevers, aches, etc, so we tried to trade off J and sleeping. I think he got the better deal there. At any rate, I hope to be fully among the land of the living tomorrow.

DH is angry with me for going to church meetings that I cannot get out of when he took the day off and is working like a dog on getting the old house emptied and new house stuff together. If he wanted me to be doing that stuff with him don't you think he would have checked with me on which days to schedule off??   sigh.  No matter how much I do, it is not enough.

RR: none.  dh thinks any free time to run should be house working time.  sigh.

RM, boo on your dh. You need some time for yourself too!

I had a great run yesterday...6 blissful miles. This morning I ran 1.5 miles and felt like I was going to die. Sigh. You just never know.

I am having some medical tests done today, related to the issues I have posted about in the past...please keep me in your good prayers/vibes/thoughts. Thanks mamas!

Thanks everyone!

bec ~ We'll be down that way for a wedding July 2nd and 3rd. :)

RM - hug2.gif Mama.  I hate it when they start acting like big dorks!  Don't feel an ounce of guilt that he didn't consult your schedule before planning something.  And get out for a run!  I put that in the category of necessity like taking a shower, eating lunch and brushing your teeth.  It's just something that needs to be done in the day!

Jen - If you have the time, maybe we could meet for lunch, or a park where the kids can run around or something!  I am pretty sure we will be in town.

So, Emily is home sick.  She's been complaining all week that she isn't feeling well.  It's not that I doubt her, but she isn't feeling great, and did have a small fever last night, so I let her stay home.  It would be easier to believe her if she hasn't spent the last year complaining about some malady or other every.single.day right before bed and right as she wakes up.  eyesroll.gif  Discussions about the "Boy Who Cried Wolf" have not seemed to penetrate her understanding.

The result of which is going t be either a run on my treadmill at home or nothing!

Nick--hope the tests go well.

bec--hope you get the run in one way or another.

RM--your DH is being completely unreasonable. Hope you are able to work out a solution.

Feeling much better today. I'm debating between a bike ride or short run today. I'm scheduled for a tempo run but I think that might be pushing it. In the meantime, I'd really better deal with laundry though. There's no shortage of it here lately.
real~I totally saw you riding your bike down 88th on my way to work. orngtongue.gif

rm~I am irked.gif on your behalf. Not fair.

jen~joy.gif

It's been an odd day. I was supposed to run with a friend, but she texted me, bailing, while I was on my way. Luckily I was only 5 minutes from home, so I just turned around and headed back. As I walked in the door, I just missed a call from the hospital recruiter who wanted to schedule an interview with me. I called back immediately, but of course she didn't answer. So then I was left to wonder if I should hang around and wait for her to call back or if I should just go get my workout in. And then I realized that I can set my home phone to forward to my cell phone, so that's what I did. redface.gif Got a good, somewhat quick bike ride in (where I saw a guy almost get clobbered by a car because he ran a light...cyclists, follow the rules of the road!!!), and then got home in time to catch the second call from the recruiter. So I am now scheduled for an interview next week, and simultaneously feeling good about myself and horrible for a friend who also applied and has had some major weirdness happen (they scheduled an interview with her, then cancelled it, then didn't tell her the truth about why they cancelled it--and she knows it's not the truth because she knows they scheduled an interview with me greensad.gif).

The training room has been crazy busy today, which is both good and bad. It totally makes the time fly by, but I do like to get paid for doing nothing. orngtongue.gif
post #280 of 369

RR: none, for a week. Sigh. I'm going to be really well-rested when I get out tomorrow, though!

Jen, awesome about the house!

Gaye, yay for a job interview!

RM, I'm sorry. hug2.gif I am more often the person guilty of what your dh is doing than the subject of it, and it's a timely reminder for me. Maybe try framing it in terms of you being a fully contributing partner in this enterprise, who has obligations to keep herself healthy and to some existing commitments....

I'm off for Friday-Monday, and am looking forward to it.
