No MDC April Fool's?

Aww I'm sorry you guys. It IS a bummer. Honestly a number of people who used to do stuff on 4/1 aren't with Mothering anymore. I know it was such a fun tradition! Hopefully we can do something again next year, when we've all had some more time to adjust to all of these changes. 

Also, I can only speak for myself but, just doing my normal mod job right now can be confusing sometimes, with the new system. I can imagine me trying to pull off some kind of a trick or prank going horribly, horribly wrong.  

Actually that could be entertaining in itself....well like I said there's always next year! 

Yep, as I posted yesterday on one of the threads, I woke up and ran downstairs like a kid on Christmas morning. 

Major bummer that this is just one more way that MDC has changed.  I keep coming back because I don't know where else to go for non-mainstream parenting support.

I think an amusing April Fools would be "a complete 180 in the philosophy of MDC"  (from Natural Family attachment parenting to the complete opposite)...have fun with that one.

this board and magazine keeps changing more and more and not really that much for the better its like there selling out

I keep hoping Cynthia will come to this thread and give us an explanation.  I feel like this yet another thing that is being kept form the members.  It makes me very sad.

Not to speak for Cynthia but it bothers me to see people upset so I wanted to chime in. I believe that the April Foolery just got lost in the shuffle of the new system changes. The changes (although entirely I believe, for the better) have really been challenging. Also, as I said upthread, a bunch of the people who used to "do stuff" for the first are no longer here. Thats just life and the nature of message boards.

Sorry for not chiming in sooner. Thanks for doing so MoonWillow.   I swear I posted a reply a few days ago. I have no idea where it went. 

It did honestly slip my mind. I thought about it a few weeks ago and wondered what we might do since we have changed platforms and all the foolery we did in the past used vBulletin software modifications to make the things happen that we placed. But we probably could have come up with something we could have placed manually. I really did forget. 

We have always received complaints about the April Fools stuff we did. I must say it's a nice change to get complaints that we didn't do anything. 

Yes, I read your post but since you just "think" it got lost in the shuffle I was hoping for an a more concrete explanations.  Not sure why you are so bothered with members wanting to to know?? With all the mainstream changes happening at MDC you have to got to admit that eliminating a long time tradition is going raise questions.

I am not saying saying MDC is bad, I am not saying that MDC *doesn't* rock .  

IMHO, no one is personally attacking/challenging you or any of the other mods so while I appreciate you chiming in (again) it is not really helpful to offer theories and speculation. Even if some of "those" people are gone if it was a tradition that MDC wanted to keep there are still a number of long term mod still active on the boards. A simple announcement/stickie/post saying "MDC will no longer be supporting (fill in blank) would have been greatly appreciated.  

Try not to take it so personally that a few of us are asking questions.

I didn't take it personally.

I knew Cynthia wasn't "anti" April Fools, but not all the details. 

My intention was not to be vague but possibly ease any upset that some were feeling.

Sorry you didn't find my post helpful.  

I didn't accuse anyone of taking issue with mods.

Sorry to stick my nose in here, but I think you misunderstood something MoonWillow said. She said, "Not to speak for Cynthia but it bothers me to see people upset so I wanted to chime in." I think you took this to mean that it bothers her that people are upset about the lack of an April Fools joke, when in fact she meant (I think) that she is an empathetic individual, and it bothers her to see people upset, no matter the cause. Am I getting that right ladies? If not, just ignore me.

My intention didn't lie in the expression of my own feelings but rather with the goal of maybe easing some bad feelings with our membership. I wasn't expecting my words to be "the" explanation because I knew Cynthia would be along at some point. 

I think it's kinda silly to be annoyed about this (not just from this post but several others regarding AFD).  It makes perfect sense that the new software makes it difficult to trick anyone by tweaking things, and I definitely believe that there has always been complaints about issues surrounding past AFD's, b/c of forums being confusing, people banning themselves (that sucked!), or feelings getting hurt b/c members thought they were left out by not getting a new title or whatever. 

I mean, I can see being a bit disappointed if you were expecting something fun to cheer you up when you logged in that day, but I'm kinda scratching my head about it being such a big deal. 

Hey, like many others, I miss vbulletin, and I certainly miss mothering magazine.  But it is what it is, and all we can do is look forward to the positive changes (like, hello, less moderation and more tolerance).
