What do I do with all this frozen breastmilk?

I have a thousand ounces of breastmilk in my IL's deep freeze (100 bags of 10 ounces each).  When our LO was about three months, I started pumping and storing milk there.  I have always been very fortunate to have a good supply of milk and have never needed to use it.  I know there are places you can donate, but is milk that is nine months old (even if stored properly) acceptable for donation?  If DS was great at drinking out of a cup, I guess I could give some to him that way, but he barely takes a sip out of a cup (though I know he will in time--he is only 1 year old and still mostly nurses for his nutrition).  The amount I need to cook with for him can easily just be expressed, so I am not going to need it for that.  I surely won't throw it away, but it seems kind of dumb to just let it sit there.  Plus MIL has reminded me a few times about it and I guess she wants some of the space back.  Any ideas?  TIA.

Wow!! That is a lot of extra milk!! I would def check with a milk bank in your area- but I think 6 months frozen is the cut off. Maybe you could check with your local La Leche League for ideas other than donating to milk bank. Maybe there is someone -adoptive or foster mama- who would take it even if it was a little past prime. It is very generous of you to think about donating all that milk that represents so much of your time :)

I have a similar problem - about 300 Oz of milk in the freezer that is about 9 months old, but I think I have lipase so I doubt my milk will be useful for another baby. greensad.gif

I too would call up your LLL leader and ask.  You never know.  Someone might really be looking for milk for an older infant and would definitely accept it!  I would!!

Check out your local chapter of Human Milk 4 Human Babies on Facebook.  You can post on their wall and a mom will come pick it from you who needs it.  I've donated to several moms this way and it's super easy.

I think milk banks want less than six months old but call one. Otherwise milkshake.com is a good source. Some, but not most lll leaders might ave names.
