suddenly a mama

Hi all,

I am new to Mothering (and new to being a mom).  My wife and I became long term foster parents about 2 months ago.  We had about a week to prepare from the time we learned of our little guys need for a good home and picking him up from the DCF office.  He has changed our lives in every way possible and we are totally in love with him.  There will likely be an option to adopt, but that is a few months down the road.  B turned 2 in january so we missed the baby years and dove head first into the toddler years:)

I have worked around pregnancy/birth/babies/kids for most of my adult life.  I was a birth doula for many years and now work as a family social worker.  I nannied my way through college and grad school.  I have been babysitting since I was 12.  And I have no clue how to raise this sweet child!!!!  We accept that everyday we will fall short of what he deserves, but as long as we love him more than we fail him we hope that he will grow up feeling loved and nurtured.

Glad to be here!

Nicole

HI Nicole ... Welcome!  And be sure to check out the Queer Parenting area under the Parenting forum.  And the Toddler section under Ages and Stages!

Welcome!  And, if it makes you feel better, NONE of us know how to raise our sweet children!  It is a work in progress regardless of what you bring to the table.  And congratulations to you and your wife!  Also, there are a zillion acronyms on this site.  When I joined, I printed off a wiki (I think) that said what they all meant and kept it next to my computer.

Oh, where is the wiki?  I found TTC acronyms but I am curious about others.

Welcome and good luck with foster parenting.  I am glad their are people out there willing to do just that job.
