Daffodils

I am a garden novice with a question. I have a potted daffodil that some one gave me as a gift. The flowers have died but I don't want to waste the bulbs. How should I prep the bulbs to put in the ground? When should I plant them. Thanks!

Keep them in the pot until their leaves die back all the way. Then you can plant them outside, or dig up the bulbs and store them in a cool, dry place until planting time in fall. It will probably take a year or two for them to recover and start blooming again, but they should do fine this way. If you want to add fertilizer, they do sell fertilizer just for bulbs, but I never use it and my bulbs do great.
