Is the Scootababy worth it?

We have the Beco Gemini that I use for walks and longer trips outside of the house, but am looking for something easy to pop DS into while I am at home.  I used to use the Moby when he was a cuddly newborn, but now that he's almost six months old and probably about twenty pounds, I don't find it as comfortable, plus there is the hassle factor of putting it on.

I really am just looking for something easy and quick that I can use around the house.  I've been getting into the habit of just carrying him on my hip, but it would be really nice to have both of my hands back.  I tried a sling that a friend lent me, but he's already heavy enough that it's not really that comfortable.  (It's possible that I'm also sort of a wimp...)

Someone recommended the Scootababy to me as a super-easy, comfortable, but supportive hip carrier.  Sounds great, but is it worth the extra money?  It's definitely not cheap, and I don't want to spend a lot on something that is essentially no quicker or easier than the Beco.  Thoughts?

The scootababy is a great hip carrier!  The only downside is that it is only a hip carrier, but it does the job really well...better than any ssc could do.  I use mine, and love it.

Did you ever think about a sling? I loved slings for the slightly older ones, you can easily use them on the hips, and when the babe gets tired, you just change to a front wear, and it can sleep. If you have to get the pasta off the stove, you push them on the back (I did that only shortly though - did not find it too comfortable)

I had a didysling, and I think they are really brilliant and really worth it. So versatile!

We borrowed a scootababy for a while and my husband especially loved it.  He's not really the type to use a sling or pouch, and doing the Gemini in a hip carry is more involved than using the scoota. 

I have a "hip daddy" carrier now, which is very like the scoota, except no structured waist, but I got it for free, so it'll do the job!

I say keep an eye out on craigslist or TBW or somewhere similar for a used scootababy.
