refresher course needed on food sensitivity symptoms

Poor dd suffers from frequent stomach aches and a sore, red bottom. She has somewhat dry skin.

She is 4.

She also has reactive airway disease, and often uses a puffer when she has a cough or cold.

We did a TED for two months when she was about 2 to try to suss out any senstivities, but I was not able to detect any particular food that she would react to.

Assuming that her gastro symptoms may be caused by food sensitivities, what foods would be most likely to cause a stomach ache and a red painful bottom?

She doesn't seem gassy, and doesn't really have diarrhea although she does poop several times a day (they are fairly firm!).

Thanks for any advice!

I did some intense food elimination diets and found triggers for my children.  Doris Rapp has a great book, "Is this your Child" that tells you detailed info.

But what has worked amazingly for me and my sons is NAET.  You can quickly and easily identify what their allergens are based on muscle testing.  message me and I will send you a link to my blog that explains how to do it.

Thanks for the replies, and for the suggestions TStudies... Unfortunately we can't afford any testing right now, so I think simple (haha - simple!) elimination diets will have to work for the moment.

Unfortunately I didn't see the PM's in my inbox. Maybe it was full? I emptied a bunch of messages out if you have the time to resend...

Day 1 without dairy as a start on the path to figuring this out.

I should add that she has had skin prick and blood tests by an allergist that came back negative for the most common food and environmental allergens. Of course I understand that she may still have sensitivities that are causing her distress, just thought I'd mention we'd done the allopathic testing ;)

Thanks again.

Fruits and vegetables can cause GI distress and red bottoms.  Try serving only cooked fruits and veggies and see if that helps then reintroduce raw a little at a time.  (Bananas eaten before really ripe can cause firm BMs).  I have also experienced irritation with agave syrup (in anything) and anything more than small amounts of garlic--cooked or not.  Raw milk--even small amounts--causes me extreme GI distress whereas pasteurized will not.

Also, don't discount less common allergies.  Both my daughter and I are allergic to rice as well as corn.  I am allergic to oats.  Rice and oats are not usually tested for unless requested.  Barley, lentils and sunflowers seeds are also not tested for. The same daughter as a baby would respond with firm BMs to many things, and the red bottom could be unrelated, and everything could be unrelated to allergies.

One thing that helped absolutely was the flaxseed meal that I began to add to her all-oat pancakes that are her bread.  Haven't had trouble on the potty since.

Her allergist recommended a simpler elimination diet that works with grains and other low-anaphylactic allergens:  5 full days without the allergen, then as much as possible on the sixth day. Again, don't try this with pea nuts, tree nuts or fish or shellfish, etc.

Allergies rule the day at our house, so I know how frustrated you are.  Good luck, and keep trying.
