Can you use HE detergent in a traditional washing machine?

Dh bought the wrong kind by mistake and neither of us wants to take it back and exchange it-- would rather just use it if we can. Thanks!

I think it would be fine to use.  Being HE just means less sudsing,but otherwise it cleans just as well.
