Presents for a 5 yr old

Thread Starter

My DD is turning 5 this month.  I am thinking about presents and what things that I think she may like.  She likes to sing, crafts and playing with the kids.

What are some good presents you have gotten your 5 yr olds that have lasted awhile?

There are neat stained glass window coloring books - like this.  I have only bought the tiny ones, which are GREAT, but for a few dollars more the bigger ones would probably be even better.

We enjoy the They Might Be Giants songs around here - ABCs is a favorite.  They're funny for the kids (and adults) and sound nice.  She could have fun singing those.

Crafting - do you have any beeswax to mush?  We had fun at Christmastime decorating beeswax candles with colored beeswax sheets (you cut the shapes with cookie cutters or scissors and they stick on just with the warmth and pressure of your hands).

Expensive, but Magnatiles have been well-liked around here too.  The kids make tunnels and tree houses for their toys with them.

my boys (5 yo) have gotten a lot of use out of their little white board and markers. i got the same thing for my friend's son on his 10th bday, and i've been told it was his favorite gift and he uses it for a lot of different things. so i guess its a good gift that spans a wide age range. i love things that grow with a kid. winky.gif

K-nex and legos are great gifts for that age.  An art kit in a purse with markers, colored pencils, envelopes, tape, and a couple small notebooks may also be good because they can be carted around town or used at home.  A lot of kids like to carry purses so that makes it two gifts in one.

My 5 yo girls get a lot of use out of their Keva Planks.  On the craft side, they recently learned how to do macrame and can spend quite awhile making a bracelet.  You could do a home made kit with twine, beads, etc.
