ultrasound size estimate

Thread Starter

Hi,

I just had an u/s at 35.5 weeks. They say the baby is 6 lb, 10 oz!

My first baby was estimated at 5 lb, 5 oz at 36.5 weeks, and ended up being born at 6 lb, 7 oz, at birth, at 41.5 weeks. So it seems they were sorta accurate that time....

But could this one already be bigger than my first one was at 41.5 weeks!?!

So what kind of experience do you have with size estimates? If they were accurate the first time, do you think they're accurate again? Could this mean I'll go early this time? (I'm soooo not ready for that)   Or maybe a huge baby?

I have no personal experience with this, so feel free to disregard my comment. winky.gif

I remember during my birthing classes that we took during my last pregnancy, the instructor said (in response to a similar question) that she really wondered why those estimates were ever given. What is the benefit? The mother who asked the question had herself so frightened of birthing a "large" baby. The instructor told her that those estimates were just that. They were not fact, nor were they able to predict how large the baby would be at birth.

You have everything that you need to birth this baby, too whether 7 or 9 pounds! Best wishes, mama.

Actually, it sounds like the first time around they were incredibly inaccurate. In 5 weeks, your baby probably gained much more than just 1 pound. I bet your first was a bit smaller than estimated. Maybe the ultrasound was accurate this time. Maybe it was way off. Maybe you'll birth another 6lb baby at 41 weeks. Maybe it'll be 10lbs!! :) It really doesn't matter. Either way, your body knows what its doing, and so does your baby. Even if you have an enormous baby at term, you can do it! Fat squishes, heads mold, pelvises expand.
