Help obtaining midwife or obstetrician in Montreal

Hello all,

I am from the US, relatively new to the Montreal area (been here since Aug 2010), and am now almost 33 weeks pregnant.  To make a long story short, I was referred to a doctor after a long grueling process trying to figure out my options for health care here, as we were new to the area and didn't know how the process worked with getting an ob-gyn.  I was referred to a doctor in St. Hubert, which is aobut 30 mins away... not knowing much about natural births, etc., at that point b/c hadn't gotten to do my research yet.  Found out I could have gone anywhere, but by the time I found out I was already 18 weeks (took a while to get in to see the doctor in the first place).  So couldn't get in to see several other docs I was referred to.  What has really ticked me off is my doctor cancelled our appt this morning b/c she was going on VACATION.  The morning of my appt, 50 mins before we were to leave, I received a phone call.  Then they didn't want to get me in for 3 more weeks.  I am fed up with the system here, I just want to be seen by someone I can trust that is closer to us (we live in St. Laurent area) and that will support a natural birth.  Anyone have any suggestions??  Would any docs or midwives even see me at this point in my pregnancy?  What about the West Island, are there available doctors/ midwives out there?

Thank you!!

Hi there!

I don't have much info for you, but you might try posting your same message here as well - http://www.mothering.com/community/forum/list/94.

That's the link to the Canada board, and you're more likely to hit other mamas from your area who could advise you. :) Best of luck!!

Hello! im going thru the same problem.  i'm new to Montreal too came in June 2011, I'm from USA im here because of my husband. I believe im 16 wks pregnant and im having a hell of a time finding a obstetrician for my baby. Had to pay $100 just for a doctor referral note, after waiting 6 hrs at the nearest hospital clinic near our home. Im tired of the system here and not being able to find a good doctor. I wanted to ask if you had any luck finding a doctor here in Montreal. I live in R.D.P area. I dont care at this point if i have to travel a ways to be seen i just want to be able to get medical treatment. I'm starting to think i need to go back to USA to have my baby if i cant find a doctor before my 6 month visa is expired. The immigration process here is like hell.. ive been also having a difficult time in that matter i applied for a work permit inside canada and was denied. Was told i could only apply from outside of Canada at a Canadian consulate abroad. If it wasn't for my husband being here as a refugee i would be long gone from here. HELP!!!!!
