We're moving to the Pittsburgh area - any experience with this Ped or Ped Dentist?

Hello! We're moving to the Pittsburgh area, and we've been looking for an AP friendly pediatrician, as well as a friendly pediatric dentist.

Names that have come up are:

Brian Donnelly MD
and
Kraig McKee DDS and R.A. Ciccarelli DDS

I've not seen their names mentioned here - has anyone had any experience with either? ETA: oops - I've come to realize that Dr. Donnelly is actually someone that was mentioned here on MDC. I'd still like feedback about him if you've got it, though.

We're looking for family-friendly offices, that will encourage parent participation and put the patient first...

I'm not familiar with either of those. I have three kids, 8, 5 and 2, and may be more lax than others on AP - as long as my children and I are treated with respect I tend to be happy.  That said, the part of town may matter to you.  I am perfectly happy with the dentist that is right up the street from me, but had to start taking my 8 year old to a pediatric dentist a half an hour away when he wouldn't open his mouth to get a cavity filled at our regular dentist.  I must say that it is much easier to get my 5 year old out of school at the end of the day and walk to the dentist on the way home for an appointment than it is to take my 8 year old out of school early to drive a half an hour.  If you happen to be in the South or South/West of Pittsburgh, I've had luck with Pediatrics South, specifically Dr. Breslin at the Robinson office and with Pediatric Dentristry South in McMurray (aside from it being a hassle to get there).

I realize now that I didn't mention a few things. We'll be living in Franklin Park, and my husband will be working in Sewickley. At this point, I only know that these areas are to the north of the center of Pittsburgh - I'm not familiar with the area at all as we're currently in upstate NY :).

As far as pediatricians go, I'm looking for someone that encourages parental involvement (not to mean that the parents are doing the "driving", just that we're a part of the process in sharing the goal of putting our children's well being first). Someone supportive and/or understanding of extended BF'ing, cosleeping, non-circ'ing, and babywearing would be ideal.

Dentists - ideally someone wanting the parents to be a supportive presence in the room during check-ups and procedures, with judicious use of xrays and no mercury fillings....

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences - I'll look into the specialists you mentioned (though I hear what you're saying about commute time making this difficult often).

Oh, another name that has come up as far as dentists go - Christina Iannessa; does anyone have any experience with her (or the others)?

We go to a practice that sees the whole family, really recommend Family Practice Medical in McMurray and Bethel park.  They might also have an office in southpointe.  We go to the Mcmurray office and see Dr. Gagianis and Dr. Barrett.  Both of them are INCREDIBLE doctors...they really care about you and want your viewpoint, they will ask what you think also..not just dictate to you.  Both of them are also extremely breastfeeding friendly and even extended breastfeeding-friendly.  They tell you you can't spoil a baby and that mothers know best.  I mentioned I love Dr. Sears and Dr. Barrett said good.  I LOVE THEM!!!

We moved from Fredonia NY to an area north of Pittsburgh about 3yrs ago. I have 5 and 6 year old daughters. For a pediatrician we have Dr Kovatch from the Pediatric Alliance north in McCandless. He has been wonderful and supportive.

We have found Dr Hoban D.M.D family practice in Wexford to be very good with my girls and my concerns as well.

 It looks like Dr. Kovatch and Dr. Donnelly are both part of Pediatric Alliance, and in locations close to our future home. That gives me another option, location-wise - thank you!

I'll look at Dr. Hoban as well - I appreciate the recommendation.

We just moved to Emsworth (just south of Sewickly) I was wondering if you found a doc you liked? We are non vac, non circ, etc and are looking for a good doctor to start seeing. Thanks!
