Where do you guys get toys for your lo?

Hi guys, First let me admit that my lo loves certain plastic toys like his activity table and pooh walker but I am trying to get him some more natural type toys so maybe he will like them too lol.  He is seven-months now and I am trying mostly to get ideas for when he is one...thanks!!

I'm anxiously awaiting more replies! Ds is 5 1/2 mos and is really taking an interest in toys now so we are looking to expand our collection.

I have trouble with this, as I'm kind of old fashioned and really prefer "traditional" shopping to internet.  I've found a few nice toys in the "Imaginarium" brand that are pretty widely available, even at Toys R Us.  I've found some more unique things at the Paper Store, of all places, too.  We're lucky enough to have a really great natural parenting store close by that carries some toys, and I also have had good luck target-shopping (which is the only way I can do internet shopping) by looking at the ads in Mothering - Nova Toys, for one.  FWIW, DD just turned one and LOVES a pop-out tunnel.  Those are pretty easy to find.

Mostly the thrift store, a few from consignment sales, and the rest were given as gifts (mostly ordered on Amazon I believe). I also make some of his toys (felt food, felt board, etc.)

bynature.ca is an awesome online store! Great customer service too. I bought my ergo and all my cloth diapers from them.

I'm also a huge Amazon shopper for toys and just about everything else. We recently bought some Sprig eco-friendly toys at Costco.

I also make a lot of stuff like plush squares, balls, a tag blanket...right now I'm working on a Waldorf style doll. I'm just a beginner at sewing but things are turning out pretty nice! I also made some shakers with different sounds and I'm slowly filling a treasure basket with objects.

I buy stuff on craigslist too but sometimes do a little work. I recently bought a little wooden workbench. I plan on sanding off the painted parts. Yard sales and rummage sales are great for finding books.

Well I'm in Germany so where I get toys won't help anyone in the US or elsewhere.

But my mom is in the US and she turned me on to a few places while I was there recently.

^^My favorite! I have been searching here for some of the wooden toys from there that were made in Germany.

There are many others. I once did an online search for "non-toxic wood toys" or "wooden toys" and came up with loads of great web stores. Also Etsy has some great stuff ~not just handmade but my mom has gotten Max some really cool vintage toys from Etsy.

GL!

novanatural.com and lots of haba products (haba is great because they will replace lost pieces/parts, no questions asked.  So, when the dog ate two of H's "guys"they replaced them)

I will second Magic Cabin! We order from there seasonally and it's really lovely (they don't have many "baby" toys I'd say..)

I also would look into

Willow Tree Toys

Blueberry Forest

Palumba

And of course Amazon : )

second amazon - if you are a member of "Amazon Moms" you get free Prime delivery. I got Vulli teethers, Melissa and Doug stuff, Haba. I got some wood toys from Ikea (not sure how "green" they are) - a walker, blocks, a wooden stacker, beads on wire, and play food.

Nothing is greener than reducing, reusing - a lot of my kids' toys are things my mother gets at yard sales. Or more green is to just use what you already have. We keep a lot of our recycling / trash. DS plays with yogurt cups, toilet paper rolls, etc.

Just to warn you - all these fabulous expensive green toys - your kids will ditch them and go for the blinky, shiny plastic crap. Kids are just like that.
