Double amniotic sac?

When I gave birth to my daughter, the dr. said I had a double amniotic sac--one inside the other.  Is this really weird?  Anyone know what might cause this?  Could my daughter have been born with a caul if the dr. had not torn the sacs?  Now that I'm pregnant again, I'm just really curious about that little detail!

The "amnion" is the inner sac and the "chorion" is the outer sac. Everyone has both, often they break (or are broken) together.

Oh!  Well maybe that's the deal!  The doctor did specifically say I had two "amniotic" sacs, but maybe he just thought I was too dumb to understand that there were two different sacs.  So then would the chorion be what is commonly referred to as "the membranes?"  I know that stripping the membranes and breaking the amnion are two separate procedures.  Thanks for the info!

Usually they break (or are broken) together. Stripping the membranes just detaches the outermost membrane (the chorion) from the cervix and lower portion of the uterus.
