Is there any way of getting oil out of clothing? I was browning beef and the grease splattered all over my shirt. I rinsed it in cold water and washed it right away, no luck. It's 60% cotton, 40% modal.

Getting oil out of clothing
Chalk, talcum powder, or corn starch, followed by a hot wash with harsh detergent. You may have to do it several times, but the chalk will suck out the grease. Make sure you apply it dry (to a dry garment) over the stains and really saturate them. Baking soda does not work. I've gotten all but the heaviest of grease stains (think bicycle grease) out of garments this way. Goo gone is also supposed to be good but I've never used it, and not on modal, which I is "cellulosic" like rayon... I have no idea what that means for its dissolvability.

Dawn dish soap. Â Seriously. Â I just rescued a basket of laundry that was ruined by my 3 year old and bottle of olive oil. Â Just picture that mess. Â He said he was tossing the salad. Â
Â
Anyway. Â I doused all of the clothes (cotton, some rayon and a wool sweater) with Dawn, let the sit for a day and then washed everything in warm water. Â It made a sudsy mess in the washer and I probably should have pre-rinsed them, but ALL of the stains came out. Â
Â
And now the olive oil lives in an upper cabinet with a childproof latch. Â
