When to be concerned about accidents in 5.5yo?

Hi everyone--I'm concerned that DS, 5.5, has started having problems staying dry during the in the last few weeks.  He's not exactly having accidents; it's more a dribble, probably when he thinks he can hold his pee and some leaks out.  He also started disliking underwear around the same time and we haven't been requiring him to wear it, so I guess it's possible that he was leaky before but we were not aware of it if it didn't make a visible wet spot on his pants.

For the record, he's still in pull-ups at night--I spoke to the ped about that and she wasn't concerned, opining that it is likely that his body does not yet produce enough of a hormone that would lead to less urine production at night.  I know nighttime wetness issues can be allergy-related, but we haven't tried any food elimination.  Would allergies affect daytime pee issues?

We don't want to show any annoyance or any sort of reaction if this is something he cannot control, but I do want to encourage him to pay attention to his body's signals.

When *would* you be concerned about daytime wetness?

Thanks.

I don't know, but I figured I'd reply, if nothing else it will bump your thread.

1) Did/does he recognize his need to pee? Has he become complacent about getting to the bathroom in time? Has he recently been in a spurt of some sort where he is newly focused on some activity? Do you remind him to go to the bathroom? In other words, is it possible you just need to go back to (if you ever did, or ever stopped) reminding him to go every now and then?

2) Any pain when urinating? Any other UTI symptoms?

3) I'm totally reaching here, I'm not even the mother of a boy... but is it possible the dampness is due to, you know, not shaking adequately?
