Well, the ball is rolling...

I just got off the phone with one of the local groups that does evaluations for learning and developmental disorders. She's coming next week for our first meeting to discuss exactly what our concerns are and then decided if we need the therapist evaluation...is that the normal way to do things?

We suspect a Sensory Issue...he's 2 so we wanted to get it early.

On a selfish note: I didn't cause it,right? There was nothing I did or didn't do during his babyhood that would have changed things? It wasn't my horrible diet during pregnancy? (A natural foodie I know alluded to as much because DS2 is much easier than DS1...)

If you are going through EI that seems normal. You can contact an OT for a private evaluation though.

That sounds right for EI...our EI consultation was very general...we then went on to get a private OT eval. Not sure about all EI, but ours confirmed what we felt were red flags and pointed us in the right direction for further evals.

As for causes...hugs, mama. I still tend to question things I did or didn't do....but I try to stop myself, because it only makes me crazy. I think the real answer is that there are a variety of factors involved, but to try to tease out just one, like diet, isn't really possible. Or helpful.

Well, the preliminary thing just ended. She said he'll probably qualify for speech as well as OT. I'm totally having mixed feelings right now...on the one hand I'm glad that it's not my imagination and on the other hand, well, no one wants to think their child isn't "normal" you know? I'm very conflicted right now... Oh, and we had to get him a ped appt? It's been a while since he's been to the doctor (we don't vax and he's never sick and the peds on base are horrible) and that was a big deal to her...as well as the not vaxing. So, he also has a ped appt next week.

Eh, I can kind of see that they'd want him to check in with a doctor since he does have some issues requiring therapy and he hasn't been in a while; but whether or not you vaccinate is none of her business unless an exemption is required.
