TMJ and tooth nerve pain

Hoping someone w TMJ or who has had TMJ will chime in.  I've been dealing with TMJ for the past 8 months.  The past 2 months it has gotten worse.  I've been helped tremendously by Cranial sacral therapy.  Also, went to the chiro and massage therapist - getting some  shoulder and neck massages.  Went to the dentist due to sensitivity and this nerve pain I am having.  He could see nothing wrong w my tooth but said maybe the old filing needed to be replaced. I don;t think he knows musch about tmj.   The pain jumps from the upper left side to the lower right side.  Anyways, I'm wondering if anyone else has had this happen.  Does the nerve pain go away eventually?  Its not constant but with movement it gets worse-like bending and exercising.  I dont know if I should replace the fillings since they are amalgam fillings or if I should wait.  Its so aggravating.  I don't think I grind my teeth at night but I know I clench probably alot.

I also have tmj and this same thing was happening to me! My dentist wanted me to have a tooth pulled b/c it was loose even though there was no decay. Luckily I followed my instincts and did not.

It didn't make sense to me b/c the pain would move like you describe. Finally, I discovered that I grind my teeth at night (common w/ tmj) and that is what was causing the tooth pain. I was grinding so hard that my teeth were coming loose! Anyway, I got a mouth guard to wear at night and the pain has stopped completely. My teeth are not loose anymore and I am so thankful I did not let the dentist do anything!

I don't know if you grind your teeth at night, but it may be worth looking into.

Good luck!

Thanks Sandy mom for your reply.  Glad to hear that I am not losing my mind re the nerve pain.  Its horrible and that it does move around.  I also noticed(months ago) that on the other side of the my mouth that two teeth have become more crowded and a space between another tooth that was never there!!  My dentist said it was not possible but I could floss with ease one day and then it became impossible to get floss thru.  Did you get a mouth guard from the dentist?  I was going to buy one at the drugstore but then decided not to b/c it had warnings on it that it could make your bite worse. I don't feel like I grind my teeth at night but maybe I do.  I know I clench and today for 2 hrs was in extreme pain.  Then it went away after I had lunch and have been fine since.  I must have been stressed from work.  Hmnn, now I'm wondering if I should get the guard.  My dentist said it was around $200.  I cannot beleive that your teeth were loose. Had no idea grinding could do that.  So did the nerve pain stop immediately after you got the guard?
