Homemade Woombie!

I'm feeling quite chuffed at myself today!!   I was about to order a Woombie, as DS cannot sleep without a swaddle. 

As I was about to check out my purchase (I wanted the Convertable Leggies) I thought "hold on, that looks like a sleeper without arms...hmmmm"

So I took a footie sleeper in one size too large (he's 0-3, so i used a 3-6 month one) and two pony-tail elastics. Wrapped the elastics around the sleeves at the shoulder so the arms were sealed off like two pony-tails.

I put DS in it and zipped it up with his arms held tight to his body.  He LOVED it!! 

Free woombie without any sewing at all, and when he outgrows it, it becomes pajamas again!

Ha ha!!  Yes one day DS peed through his wombie so when nap time came it was still in the dryer.  I tired wrapping him in a blanket and he screamed.  I tried no swaddle at all, and he screamed.  Finally I unzipped his jammies and pulled his arms through the sleeves and zipped them back up - succuss!  Of course I didn't discover this until AFTER I spent the $30 or whatever so it didn't do me much good so good for you for figuring it out sooner!

I was just looking at the Woombie and thinking of how to make it...googled Homemade Woombie and found this delightfully, helpful site!

My daughter is presently in labor (for a day already) with who will be my 2nd grandchild.

My other daughter used a borrowed Woombie for her baby and loved it....

But, I.. being thrifty, crafty and needing to keep busy; shall try to re-invent a little sleeper as you have suggested.

just thought of another improvement, take the arms and tie them in front of the babies chest, that way you can tighten the swaddle to taste!
