Baby Blessing Ideas

Does anybody have any ideas of things to incorporate into a baby blessing? We are not very religious but my grandmother has been asking if I'm going to baptize Julia so we are going to be having a nondenominational baby blessing instead when I go home to NJ. We are not having it at a church. I'm trying to arrange everything by phone with the help of my SIL. I will also be "blessed" because my mother never baptized me and my grandmother has been asking me to do it my whole life. She is catholic and thinks I will go to hell. It means a lot to her, especially now that she is older and feels she will never see me again if she passes away. So, I'm doing this to honor her and to set her mind at ease. I'm trying to think of things that are more spiritual than religious. I've found some nice poetry but I'm not sure what else to do. Any ideas or things done that you thought were memorable and special?

We didn't do one , but here is a modified idea of something we did at our wedding party:

Have each person write a little note (keep it short, ours were one-liners on a folded piece of paper) and put them all in a box (or album) for the baby. Have people offer their best little tidbit of advice for life, or a proverb, or poem or a blessing, etc....

BTW your grammy is okay with you getting baptised but not your baby? Not at ALL saying you should have the babe baptised for her sake, but just curious that she is okay with only you, meanwhile thinking your baby will go to hell..??

I went to baby blessing at a UU church one year. They had a neat ceremony where they collected waters from all over the earth and pour them together in a sliver bowl and dab them on the baby. I forget the words but it was "vague but feel good" in that special UU way.

My baby and I are both getting "blessed" at the little ceremony we are having. I'm not going to make a big deal about my blessing - I'd like it to be done and over with quickly.

The ideas are for my LO's blessing and how to make it memorable and special.
