best first birthday gifts?

Hi toddler mamas!

My little guy's 1st birthday is fast approaching, and I'm starting to think about a present.  I'd much rather get one nicer toy than a bunch of a little things.  So, what toy did your LO enjoy the most between 1 and 2 years old?  We don't have a lot of money, but I could keep an eye on Craigslist for gifts, too.

Thanks!

A kid-sized table & chairs -- that has gotten the most use by far!!

Any push/ride toy will get a lot of use as well.

I had the exact same question - here is another thread with some great answers!  http://www.mothering.com/community/forum/thread/1305352/what-did-are-you-get-ting-your-1-year-old-on-their-first-birthday

I got our DS a Whacky Ball from Target based on a recommendation from another mom in an MDC first birthday gift thread (perhaps the one referenced by the PP).  He loves it, and playing with the balls on their own is another fun activity.  That was his only present from us and we were grateful to find a gift he likes so well!

My cousins got my DS a "cozy coupe" car.  They each have 3 kiddos and raved about it. I thought, "oh no, a bit push/ride toy...where will we put it?"   Answer...the living room. DS LOVES it. we almost have to pry him out of it at night. He can't move it while he's inside of it but loves sitting in it and watching tv or he brings toys inside of it to play. He's now trying to push it around..Kinda funny to watch since he can't see over it.
