Friction mats in the tub...not sure where this goes???

I have a plastic mat in our bathtub to keep the kiddos from slipping.  It is getting moldy, and I don't want to buy a new one because they are so stinky, and I hate disposable stuff.  Any ideas for alternatives?

Have you washed the mat? It should be able to go in the clothes washer, but not the dryer ( just like a shower curtain liner).

Yes, I've washed it, soake it in bleach, taken a toothbrush to it...it has these little fish on it, and the mold is under those, and also under the suction cups!

Once it is mouldy like that, you can't really resurrect it...and it is a health hazard....I think you will need to toss it.

I must admit that I never found those mats very useful, in fact they made the kids more likely to slip because they would come loose and slip when they walked on them.

Well, my mom bought stickers you stick on the bottom of the tub that prevent slipping.  They are near impossible to remove whenever you are done wanting them, though.  They worked well and no mold.

I've never had any good luck with any of those things.  I tried the mats and like you they always get moldy and gross around all the suction cups.  I've also tried stickers and it seems like they never stuck well enough and ended up coming off before we really got a lot of use out of them.  I've spent more time buying things and throwing them away than actually getting any use out of any of it...lol

I agree with clutterwarrior.  I just make sure the kids aren't standing in the tub, if they're in there they are sitting... When they were really little I would just put a washcloth under their bums to keep their bums from slipping around while washing them up :)

I have an ikea one of these and i take it out each time we use it and hang it on an unused towel rail so it dries and never gets slimey and mouldy.

Yep - we do the same thing. And the Ikea tub mat is real rubber. We have no slime or mold on ours. My 2YO is trained to hang it up after each bath.
