an ovulation date of feb 12 gives an edd of nov 5.. is that right? Thats just a few days before mine so that puts you at exactly 9 weeks, 4 days. So you would be 9 completed weeks, but "in your 10th week". If thats disorienting, think of it like this. When your baby is, say, 3 days old, you would say "he's in his first week of life" even though he would not be 1 week old. So, you're IN your 10th week, but you are 9 completed weeks pregnant.

You conceive on your ovulation day. When you conceive you are "two weeks pregnant." What that means is, you are starting your 2nd week on the day you conceive. If you ovulated on the 13th day of your cycle (and you can't really know what day you ovulated unless you chart or can feel it), then you would have a due date of November 5th, making you 9w4d or "9 weeks pregnant." In 3 days you'll be 10w0d and that's when you'd say "10 weeks." Remember that the gestational and fetal ages are different by 2 weeks. Medical providers will always use gestational age b/c they base due dates on your LMP (last menstrual period). Hope that helps!

See, this is what I thought when I was pregnant with my first, but when I went into the midwife, she told me I was a week behind what I had been assuming. So now when I'm 6w4d I say "6 weeks" not 7. What I took this to mean is that I'm on the 4th day of my 6th week, not I'm a full 6 weeks and 4 more days, which I would say is "7 weeks." So for the OP, she's 9w6d (now), I would say that's "9 weeks pregnant" and tomorrow she'll be "10 weeks pregnant."Â

Anyone else able to clarify?

I often use this site for calculating the start of each week: http://pregnancy.about.com/cs/pregnancycalendar/l/blpregcalc.htm
For your due date of 11/5, type in January 29th for your LMP and it will tell you when each week starts. So you'll see that week 10 starts on April 9th (tomorrow). But I could see how some might still interpret this as meaning you are a full 10 weeks on that date because that would mean you are a full 40 weeks on your due date instead of starting your 40th week.  Thoughts?

Yeah, like right now I'm 9w2d but I just say "9 weeks" NOT "10 weeks". I think thats the most common sense way to put it. Basically, saying "x weeks" and "the xth week" are saying completely different things. There are some people/websites out there who DO count it as "the xth week" so I mentally adjust when I'm reading. I'm pretty sure the pregnancy.about.com calendar does it that way, which I only sort of noticed a couple weeks ago. I find it irritating and confusing when people do that without clearly specifying thats what they're doing because MOST people count how many completed weeks they are.Â
