Good Luck,
Â
We are setting up a 504 for my DD soon.
Â
First, I would make sure that the nurse or person responsible for your child if she vomits to be in attendance and/or the person that may be involved if your child misses a lot of school.
Â
Second, have a written plan on how to take care of  the areas of concern (absences, what happens is she vomits at school, foods to eat, etc) lay it out step by step. Example" If X misses # days of school - she has  # day to make up work without being penalized."  or " If X vomits at school,  _____ needs to be contacted and X needs to do ______ and _______ right away.". Include terminology for school staff to use if you use certain phrases or terms.
Â
Â
Third, have medical documentation. Legally the school may require proof of a medication condition stating she needs accommodations and statement of how her medical condition makes a 504 needed. Some schools are more open, but other dislike 504s and even though legally they have to allow 504s- they make it difficult. I hope you are in a supportive school- it makes for such a wonderful environment for kids!
Â
Â
Â
Hope it goes well!!!
