Pregnant, need advice to stick to TF diet

Ok, so I've been slowly increasing the TF in my diet and using TF methods over the past year and I was doing pretty good! Ok, now i'm 9 weeks pregnant and there is nothing I'm interested in eating. I'm hungry and I eat, but I am not excited by anything. Dairy totally truns my stomach right now (unless it is melted cheese on a quesadilla or pizza) I even had some yummy ice cream last night, which tasted good at the time, but afterwards I felt horrible. I even premade some foods a few weeks ago, like soaked flour gluten free waffles with whey and stuff? Totally can't eat them.Maybe becuase they are 'yogurty' and yogurt is so turning me off right now. I made some crispy nuts....I can manage to eat one or two and then I don't want them.   And If I cook the meat and smell it the whole time, I can only manage a bite or two and I'm turned off. But I'm the one who has to cook dinner (hubby works) Blah. I hate having to think about food so much, but I'm hungry. So I eat. And then I'm nauseus. So I eat.

 

Sorry, I'm whining, I was just hoping for some suggestions.

My opinion is that you should eat what you crave in the healthiest fashion you can tolerate. I think there is a reason for the cravings and aversions. I know I craved dairy like crazy but coudln't tolerate milk, cheese and bread was good. Carbs was what I wanted mainly. I could not tolerate meat or even veggies for the most part.

Sorry you feel so bad mama. I eat whatever sounds tolerable when I I have pregnancy nausea..I was really into buttered potatoes and fresh fruit with this last baby, but I ate some junky food I would not normally eat becasue it was the only thing that sounded okay (fast food hash browns, pepsi for example) My babies have all been very healthy...You will be able to eat healthier when the morning sickness passes.

I didn't eat hardly anything for the first three months I was pregnant! Z(okay maybe not) but it was pretty bad nausea. Have you tried making yourself ginger tea before meals to sooth your nausea? Just add a few slices or ginger to some hot water and cook for a while, say 10 or 15 minutes or until strong enough for you and add plenty of honey ( at least for me) and possibly a squeeze of lemon or lime. I loved pasta alfredo, nice creamy a bland. Or try homemade or store bough fruit popsicles or granita if you are craving cool things. I ate a ton of PB and J when I was pregnant too.

I pretty much lived on saltines and popsicles until about 13 weeks. Does broth give you the same reaction as meat? I was able to tolerate some broth here and there.


I knew the morning sickness was passing when I started craving dairy like crazy. Like others have said, once you get past this, you'll be able to eat better. Don't worry too much about what you're eating now. As long as you get can get something down, even if it is just a couple of crackers, consider that a victory. My midwife friend suggested that I eat some cold fruit while preparing something more substantial. She said that would raise blood sugar enough that whatever I was cooking wouldn't make me nauseous. I'm not much of a fruit eater, so I never tried it.  Good luck! I hope the nausea passes soon for you.

Yes, the nausea in early pregnancy can make it sooo hard to eat healthy!  I struggled a lot too; I craved white flour/sugary things like you wouldn't believe!  So I tried to make sure I got the healthier versions of things: sprouted grain bread, veggie noodles, etc. I still ate a lot of crap, don't get me wrong!

 

I do eat a lot of quesadillas, so if those are tolerable to you they are a good option. Raw cheese, sprouted tortillas, veggies, salsa - how does that sound?  I made a lot of fruit and veggie smoothies too, because something about raw vegetables in the first trimester made me want to hurl!  I know you said yogurt is not appealing to you right now, but could you make a smoothie with yogurt, fruit and some leafy greens? 

 

I hope the nausea passes soon!

I wouldn't worry about it to much, just don't eat the things that are making you nauseous.  Cut out the meat and dairy for awhile if you don't feel like eating it.  Just stay up on your sprouted grains, fruits and veggies and your good fats.  Make taking you CLO a priority and maybe even add in butter oil to make up for what you are lacking.  Try to get in any ferments that sound good maybe some water kefir, kombucha or fermented salsa (NT recipe is my fav) sound appetizing?  I second the ginger tea idea too, it you like ginger that is.

Unlike my first pregnancy, I actually had morning sickness for about the first three months of my current one....I was also a total witch to be around haha. I have found that what I eat first thing in the morning really dictates how my eating habits will be for the remainder of the day. If I skimped on my morning meal (and by morning I mean still in bed watching the news with DH at the buttcrack of dawn) I would feel miserable throughout the day and not want to eat. So when I get up to make DH his coffee, I make myself a little cup of tea (ginger root, raspberry, mint) and have it with a small glass of fruit juice and a high protein "mini meal" like a hardboiled egg or some yogurt. For the most part I have followed Dr. Brewer's pregnancy diet and have felt pretty good. Due to horrid heartburn I have totally changed the way I eat as far as frequency - I will eat a small "meal" every other hour or so and wash it down with a warm drink to help it move on through.

 

I know what you mean about making dinner and then not wanting to eat it. I was lucky enough to grow up right next door to my grandparents and my grandmother would have a hot meal on the table everynight - and her food is SO GOOD. She would sit down at the table with just a tiny little "sample" of the dinner she made, and I would ask her why she wasn't really eating, to which she would say, "after cookin' all afternoon, the last thing I want to do is eat!" Now I know exactly what she means! It seems like the longer I spend preparing supper, the less interested I am in it.....could also be all the "taste testing" that goes on throughout the process!

I'm almost scared to ask this, but how do you feel about eggs?  That was the only TF friendly thing I could eat at the beginning of this pregnancy.  I had pastured eggs with Kerrygold butter and bacon every day for sometimes multiple meals each day.  It was the only thing that didn't make me want to crawl to the bathroom and cry. 

 

I wouldn't push yourself to be all TF right now.  Let your body guide you.  Eventually your m/s will subside and you can begin enjoying the healthier foods again.

I went through the same thing with eggs! We are lucky enough to have our own small flock of hens that were pumping out eggs at a pretty good clip at the same time that I was craving them - the hens and I must have had some sort of crossed vibes, because when I demanded, they supplied!

This is the rough part of pregnancy. I'd say honestly just eat what sounds good or will stay down, TF or not. My first pregnancy I wouldn't have been able to be TF at least in the first part of pregnancy. Towards the middle to end, I was able to eat much better, but in the beginning, whatever I could keep down won! Luckily for most women, the nausea period is short lived, 5-7 weeks or so. I hope you feel better!
