I'm suppose to be pregnant....

Hello, Im not sure if this is the place to post this but I am going to anyways. I found out about 2 months ago that I was pregnant. and some nurse/doctor at an urgent care i went to (for a knee problem) gave me a doppler and she said since she was able to hear the babys heart beat she would guess im around 2-3 months. okay you add all that up its up to 5 months. and yet i have absolutely NO preggo tummy. Ive since taken many home pregnancy tests and they all agree that im pregnant. what gives? im waiting for some visual confirmation. any thoughts even if you dont have answers would be appreciated. thanks.

Since you are really guessing at dates and what might be going on, I would make an appointment with a doctor or midwife asap.  It's pretty normal not to 'show' early on in a pregnancy- especially your first, but at 5 months, you should be noticing fetal movement and other hard to miss symptoms.

With an anterior placenta, and not knowing what to look for, I can definitely see not looking or feeling very pregnant at first. With my first baby, I lost weight in the beginning and didn't gain an ounce until 18 weeks, and even then didn't look or even feel in the least bit pregnant. Then the changes to your body tend to happen in fits and spurts, at least for me they did. One day you'll wake up and look in the mirror as you're brushing your teeth and think, "Ohmigosh! I did NOT look like that yesterday!!" lol.gif

With the doppler, you can sometimes hear the heart beat as early as 9 weeks.  So if that was 2 months ago (let's say 8-9 weeks ago) then you could be only 17-18 weeks along.    With my first, I didn't look at all pregnant until I was about 6 months along.  But, I had the m/s, dizziness, sore breasts, etc. and I felt the baby move around 17 weeks.  Some women, however, don't really get pregnancy symptoms and don't feel the baby move until closer to 24 weeks.  As a pp said, where the placenta is located can affect when you feel fetal movement.

If you're going for an unassisted pregnancy?  If not, then I would make an appointment with a care provider who can measure your fundal height and make an estimate of your due date.  You could also get an u/s to estimate your due date, though it will be less accurate now that you're this far along, but it will still be within 1-2 weeks.  If you are around 18 weeks, they might be able to tell you the gender, too, if you want to know that.

One thing to remember is that when we look for a heartbeat, we typically listen in the lower area of our bellies. I had a doppler and could never find a heartbeat, so I assumed it didnt work. My baby was just breech! The heartbeat was all the way up by my ribcage. Have you tried there? Also, a lot of those things dont really work until after about 20 weeks. What brand makes it? If I was supposed to be pregnant and I was unsure of what was going on, Id get to a doctor asap for an ultrasound so that I could have visual comfirmation about my pregnancy. If money is an issue for you, you could also go to one of those anti-abortion "pregnancy help" places. They often have ultrasound machines or will pay for you to go to the doctor as long as you promise you will keep the baby (which I assume you would, since youve made no mention of otherwise). I didnt really "pop" until 20 weeks, and had pretty much no baby movement until about the same time.

Yeah, you couldn't really tell I was pregnant at 5 months either, unless I were wearing something clingy or you had been paying very close attention to my shape. Even now at 6 1/2 months, people who already knew me before can tell, but those who are just meeting me sometimes don't get it right away.

Have you ever seen the tv show "I didn't know I was pregnant?" At least you found out before the birth! smile.gif

Other people could tell I was pregnant with my first at 8 1/2 months pregnant  :) I started out growing my clothes at 5-6 months pregnant but it sure wasn't a pregnancy belly.

I'm almost 17 weeks pregnant with my 4th, and I don't really look pregnant yet.  I feel fetal movement, but nothing I wouldn't pass off if I didn't *know* I was pregnant, and perhaps if this were my first, I wouldn't know it was what I was feeling.  I've gained between 8-10 pounds, but I still fit in my normal non-pregnant jeans.

The one time I can clearly see that I'm pregnant (although I guess I can see it in my shape now, because I know what my own body looks like), is when I lie on my back, especially in the morning.  Between my stomach being empty (so I'm sort of "thinner") and my bladder being relatively full (displacing my uterus a bit), I can very clearly see where my uterus is.

Anyway, if this is your first, and especially if you are tall or overweight, it isn't crazy that you wouldn't be showing yet.  But I agree that a visit with an OB or midwife could clear this up and put your mind at ease.

Dont wait for visual confirmation.....that is like that last thing that happens..... with my first I didnt show until 6 or 7 months. You are definitely pregnant well before you start showing! Heres to a happy pregnancy! Congrats!

Hey, I didn't show until 6 months, I just gained a bit of weight. I felt movement I could recognize as movement around 20 weeks. My midwives said many people don't feel regular movement until 23 weeks, or almost 6 months.

I don't know what your situation is, or if you have insurance or not, but if you don't, you could consider going to one of those crisis pregnancy centres where they have ultrasounds - even if you're not strictly "in crisis".

Don't sweat it. I didn't show until I was six or seven months along--didn't get comments from strangers until about 27 weeks. Especially if you're tall or have a long torso, it's not unusual.

Lol - I knew I was pregnant at 5 weeks but it didn't feel real until 20 weeks when I first felt her move.  I didn't have a single traditional symptom and didn't show, gain weight, or feel pregnant for the first half of my pregnancy.  I think it's safe to say you are pregnant!
