Child reading Physics Textbook at age 5??

Thread Starter

Yesterday I went out to buy some supplies for my office, and as I was browsing around my son brought me this Physics textbook and told me he wanted it. He was practically begging me for it, so I bought it. He seemed to be like the happiest kid alive. At home he's just into the book.

I want to know if my child is gifted(in what iq range) or not just to make sure I can take the right steps in the future.

Hmm, that's not a whole lot to go on. Clearly he likes physics. And books. He sounds like a neat kid. Enjoy the curiosity and drive!

I agree with PP. Truth is, no one could give you an online diagnosis. Gifted kids come in all shapes and sizes. Just take heart that if you listen to him and follow his lead, you aren't going to stunt his growth.

There is no single definition of giftedness and there's a lot of discussion (debate) about what is giftedness and how to identify it. If you look back at old threads in this forum, you'll find quite a bit of discussion about it. I recommend exploring the forum a little. You might be interested in some of the stories and anecdotes and references in those conversations. You may also find some helpful reading at the Hoagies Gifted website. There are articles about gifted characteristics, the identification process, and other useful material that might offer some insight.

And welcome!!
