what was the first project you crocheted/knitted?

I recently started to crochet and LOVE it!  It is so easy, yet makes such cute items.  I just got done making a wash mitt for my neice in verrigated cotton yarn, and am now starting to make finger puppets for her.  My absolute favorite book is one I got out of the library called "Way to Crochet" by. Sherri and Michelle Haab.

What was your first project when you started to crochet or knit?crochetsmilie.gif

I went all out and made a baby blanket.  I had a co-worker who loved to make blankets and I learned from here... Im hopelessly addicted to making blankets now.

That's how my former caregiver was!  She made a really cute blanket for her son that had a doggy head and paws.  He loves it.

I knit a hat for my 16 yo dd that goes to the floor.

I knit a hat, worked flat then sewn up the side, all stockinette with a rolled brim in green wool then the rest brown. Then made another of the same with the colors reversed so each son would have one.

My very first project was a garter-stitch bag from Knitting for Dummies. It featured an i-cord, so I learned how to make those immediately. Then I jumped into circular knitting and make a bunch of plain roll-brim hats.

I have made one baby blanket, but it appears I have commitment issues. If I hadn't told a bunch of family members that I was making it for a new long-awaited nephew, it would likely still be in hibernation! I like smaller projects that get done faster. I think I'll enjoy socks!

I knit a scarf and then jumped right into sweater knitting since that was why I wanted to learn to knit!

I knit some flat things (half-finished scarves, a little bag for cards, random squares, those YO-edged washcloths) for about a decade.  Then one day I decided to make wool shorties for my DS so that was my first *real* pattern-following project IYKWIM.

I remeber exactly, I knit a six foot long scarf in Harry Potter colors with this awful acrylic yarn. I still have it, but I've never worn it. But it's the knitting I used to quit smoking! So I still love it.
