He will be crawling soon, help!

He's up on all fours and army crawling. It's exciting and I'm glad, except I'm not ready! Heres my biggest concern. DP moved out of state and we are not joining him until the end of may. I co-sleep with DS. During the week I get up at 445am to get ready for work etc and pray that he doesn't wake until I come back upstairs. probably 75% of the time he doesn't. My bed is pushed in the corner and I do not have a head or foot board. The long side of the bed not against the wall has the mostly unused co-sleeper against it and a small dresser the same height as the bed. The foot of the bed is open. What happens when he starts crawling, wakes before I do and doesn't make any noise for me to hear on the monitor?

Any advice?

Can you get a pack'n'play that you can transfer him to while you get ready downstairs? What about putting a child-size mattress on the floor and transfering him to that? Any chance of putting YOUR mattress on the floor? As I understand it, you'll be moving anyways so why not take the bed apart now?

Hm.  Maybe the mattress on the floor.  That will require some serious cleaning since I assume he'll crawl off.  That needs to be done, but is hard to get to.  Transferring him anywhere guarantees his waking up unfortunately.

My DS is crawling now and he sleeps part-time in his crib, part-time with us in bed.

When we are in bed with him and he does wake-up first- YES he is up and crawling sometimes half-asleep! When I'm sleeping next to him I hear him/sense him getting up but I wouldn't leave him in bed alone anymore. There is no way I'd hear him get up on a monitor either. Now that he can move around when he gets up, he rarely squawks for attention in bed any more.

I second putting the mattress on the floor.
